Grand Summer Gala

Our biggest event of the year! Our Grand Summer Steam Gala sees the full operational Moors Valley Railway fleet in service, alongside visiting traction engines, classic cars and much more. Located on Lakeside picnic area and at Kingsmere railway station there is lots to do for the whole family.

As well as frequent passenger trains, you can also enjoy:

  • Different locomotives in steam each day
  • Demonstration trains with our freight wagon fleet and original Tucktonia covered coaches
  • Full size and miniature steam traction engines
  • Classic cars and military vehicles
  • Children’s Bouncy Castles and Trainmaster themed railway play
  • A large selection of local craft stalls (NEW for 2026)
  • Hot food, sweets, ice cream, hot & cold drinks available from Lakeside picnic area

Gala Day Rover tickets are the best way to enjoy this event, however Return and Single tickets will also available.

Tickets can be purchased on the day at both Kingsmere and Lakeside stations. Both stations accept payment by cash or credit/debit card.

Our usual selection of drinks, ice cream and snacks will be available, as well as gifts and souvenirs to remind you of a great day out.

Gala Rover exclusives

Make the most of your visit with a Gala Day Rover ticket, providing unlimited travel on the day of purchase, plus access to:

  • An engine shed, yard and workshop tour at 15:00.
  • The Dorset Flyer service: a non-stop round trip from platform 1 at Kinsgmere Station.
  • The New Forester service: a double reverse run of the line on Sunday at 10:15 from Kingsmere Station, available exclusively to Gala Rover ticket holders.
  • The Loco Challenge: Ride behind all rostered locos and win a prize! Ask for a challenge sheet when collecting your tickets, get it clipped with each engine, and claim your prize from the Kingsmere Station shop when complete!
