Trackwork Replacement

October saw the start of a major trackwork replacement programme on the up and down main lines between Lakeside Station and Kings Junction.

The track on this stretch of line dates back to the early 1990’s when this section was upgraded from a single to a double track main line. The decision was taken to not only fit new rail, sleepers and ballast, but also dig out and replace the track bed with new hardcore and membrane. This will ensure the track bed remains firm and weed free for years to come.

Vegetation clearance and landscaping work was also undertaken to help improve the views across the lake for those traveling on the train. The next phase of the work is due to take place in January 2023.
